Appointments & Waiting Time

Our Walk-in Philosophy

Able Hands Primary Care Center is predominantly a walk-in health center. While some patients, especially our valuable NHI beneficiaries, are given appointment dates, it is very difficult to lock in a specific time period for the assigned date because non-NHI patients present to clinic throughout the day.

A walk-in system provides several benefits such as accessibility, convenience and affordability. All patients at Able Hands Primary Care Center are seen with the same priority, which is determined by the severity of their medical issue during the triaging process.

We greatly apologize to busy working patients who must adhere to a strict appointment time. We understand your needs and welcome you to seek alternative providers who can accommodate your most valuable time. We are here and willing to assist you, should changes in your scheduling occur.

Wait Time Realities

Waiting time can sometimes be a vexing issue. A longer waiting time might be influenced by large patient volume, staff shortage and increased appointment scheduling. Patients are generally seen in the order in which they arrive. However, in some cases, the elderly, infants or unforeseen emergencies may take priority over earlier arrivals.

Although a longer waiting time may be bothersome, we at Able Hands Primary Care Center prefer the delivery of safe, quality care over careless, inattentive speed.

Our providers make every effort to stay within a reasonable time ceiling, respecting the valuable time of our patients. We attempt to avoid poor outcomes such as patient frustration, patients leaving without being seen, or not having their prescriptions refilled.

New Patients

New patients may download and fill out our registration form before visiting the clinic. Bring this form along with you to help speed up service. If you are unable to print or download the form, registration forms are available at the clinic upon your arrival. If you require assistance in filling out the form, one of our friendly staff members would be happy to assist you.

Insurance & Coverage

We at Able Hands Primary Care Center know that health care can be quite costly, especially in our harsh economic climate. As a result, we have fought to keep costs low so that our valuable patients from all walks of life can access both basic medical services and minor surgical procedures without putting undue strain on patients’ pockets.

National Health Insurance (NHI)

Able Hands Primary Care Center is an NHI provider. NHI provides free primary care services for all enrolled adults and children.

NHI covers:

  • Doctor and clinic visits and regular exams
  • Lab tests
  • Pap smears
  • Prescriptions
  • School physicals for NHI beneficiaries

Unfortunately, injections, in-house urine examination, blood sugar sticks, minor surgical procedures and radiology services such as x-rays, mammograms, ultrasound scans, MRIs and CT scans are not covered at this time.

New NHI patients will need documents that show proof of identity and date of birth. Patients may use any government issued ID such as a passport, voter’s card, NIB card or driver’s license.

Important: All NHI beneficiaries must call in advance for an appointment.

Note: Injections, minor surgery and certain radiology services are currently not covered by NHI.

Private Health Insurance

Able Hands Primary Care Center accepts most major health insurance, including Colina, Atlantic Medical, Bahama Health and BAF.

While your insurance carrier may cover basic visits, some procedures such as MRI scans may require pre-certification before payment is made. Call your insurance carrier to find out what is covered in your plan.

Please note, possession of an insurance ID card does not guarantee eligibility. Your coverage must be valid at the time of your visit.
